Been keeping busy working on a lot of exciting stuff!

I've decided to re-ignite my YouTube channel with videos pertaining to my music. Been having a lot of fun with it as it combines my two loves: filmmaking and music making!

Please subscribe to my YouTube channel and be sure to click the bell icon so you know when I upload a new video, which will be one every week!

I've also added my YouTube videos here on my website via my video page.

Currently working on a new single which is currently being mastered. Also want to launch a neat video for it as well.

I've got 2 shows coming up. I'll be sitting in with Tom Gramlich and Elmore's Paint Horse over at The Cinema Bar in Culver City on Sat February 10. Then the very next day, Sunday February 11, I'll be doing a solo acoustic performance at Beyond Baroque in Venice for a special Valentine's show "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" hosted by Eric Vollmer and featuring poets, writers and musicians.

I've got another video to work on, so bye for now!!
Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/49069882017-10-25T22:41:04-07:002022-05-09T12:23:10-07:00New lyric video for "This Is the Life" and bumper stickers! Woo hoo!
I discovered a new video editing program called Wondershare Filmora, which is super easy and so much fun to use! Didn't have time to shoot a video for my Amy Macdonald cover song This Is the Life, so I created a lyric video. Check it on my video page!

In other news, my next show will be at the Farmers Market on 3rd and Fairfax in Los Angeles on Nov 11. I'll be performing with my full band as Edie Murphy and the Just Around Towners. We're the opening act for my old band The Stardust Ramblers. It will be a grand reunion! Ramblers Joey Buttler and Sally Jo will join the Towners and sing back up for a few tunes. Then I'll return the favor and sit in on fiddle during their set. It's gonna be a hoot!

And even more good news, I got new band stickers!

Yep, that's my fiddle and mandolin that I drew with chalk on a chalkboard and took a digital picture. Pretty nifty, huh?

Been keeping busy learning about promoting my music, working on videos and of course practicing! Plus I managed to find time to go out and enjoy live music. Saw a great double bill, Great Willow opening for Paul Kelly at The Federal Bar last Sunday with some dear friends. Very inspiring to hear good music in a good venue. Hope to play there myself.

Working on my next single and a lyric video for that too. So stay tuned!
Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/48934152017-10-16T07:30:34-07:002021-04-25T19:48:50-07:00Having fun with Spotify
A few weeks ago I digitally released my original song "Save Our Ship" aka "The Batman Song." Haven't had much time to promote it, and I'm finding it a challenge to keep up with the whole social media thing. Figure I'll just find things that I truly like to do and not beat myself up with getting it right.

So I came across Spotify and I'm having fun discovering new music and playing old favorite songs. I've created a couple of playlists and even signed up for an artist account. Really neat stuff. Right now it's crickets because my profile is brand spanking new, but it's pretty cool that I'm seeing streams in different countries like Australia and Chile.

Here's my first Spotify playlist: California Dwellers - Edie's Spotify playlist

My friend Bryan Stone from the band The Buttonholes even shared it on Facebook. I was stoked he did that!

Anyways, this playlist features some of my friends here in California as well as other California artists I really admire. Enjoy!

Well two years ago, my summer project was blogging with my sister, Christy. Was hoping to keep that going, but life had other plans.

Summer is my productive season for creativity, and 2016 was no exception.

I enrolled at the Animation Academy and studied Character Design from spring to the end of summer. It was a very humbling, yet incredibly rewarding experience.

By August 2016, I was offered a new exciting, yet challenging, job in digital media. Unfortunately, I could't keep up the pace with drawing, music and a new day gig. So the animation stuff got placed on the back burner.

However, I didn't give up on my art entirely. I created the artwork and designed my new t-shirt featuring lyrics from my song "Save Our Ship" which is on sale on my merch page. There's also coffee mugs featuring my chalk mandolin and fiddle drawings, and guitar watercolor for sale.

And now fast forward to this summer, I recorded several new tunes, including some really fun covers. Plus, I shot a DIY YouTube video for my song "Save Our Ship" which you can see on my home page. Last week I released a cover of Amy Macdonald's hit "This Is The Life." So thrilled about this. It's available everywhere! Look for it on iTunes, Amazon, Apple Music, Spotify, CDBaby, GooglePlay, etc.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/this-is-the-life-single/id1273048354&app=itunes

My plan is to release a single every three weeks.

Also doing some updates to my Edie Murphy website and I just started a Facebook music page. So like me on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/EdieMurphymusic

Thanks!

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37638602015-07-02T14:13:40-07:002022-05-27T05:05:27-07:00Gonna keep on keepin' on!!Hey Bud, looking forward to what July has in store for me. I have no idea what that will be, but I have this strong gut feeling something good is up and around the bend.

Nothing all that profound to write today or anything creative to share, but I've been playing my guitar these past few days. Tonight I think I'll dig up some ideas I recorded a month ago and see where it takes me. Maybe even post that tomorrow since it's my day off. We'll see.

Anyways, just checking in to keep up my blogging momentum.

Love you!Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37609602015-06-30T15:08:58-07:002021-06-17T05:08:44-07:00Day 30 Looks like we made it!Hey Bud, and welcome to day 30. We did it! Yay us!

Well, I had a lot of fun moving this cartoon up to a whole :10 sec of rock and roll, animated goodness. Worked on it a little after work last night, but made much more progress this morning. Check it!

This blog has been a true motivator for me. The cool thing is, I just sit down at my desk and see what strikes me. There's been very little planning. I like this way of working. Just show up and something happens. My leaps of faith are getting bigger and my little chunks of consistent effort are starting to build. This experiment lifted my spirits higher than I imagined. It feels good to be joyful, inspired, productive and creative again.

Holy cow! I can't wait to tell you what else is going on!!

This is turning into one hell of a summer. Thanks Bud. LOVE YOU!!!Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37594192015-06-29T15:22:39-07:002020-10-19T05:06:10-07:00Day 29 Hello operator, again...Hey Bud, Well I actually accomplished something today. Unfortunately Vimeo takes forever to upload a :02 sec video. Hopefully, it will be ready before I go to work in an hour.

I chose Vimeo because the quality is better and I didn't want to load my animation tests on YouTube. Too visible, too soon. I thought about Vine, but timing those loops really pisses me off. I have yet to figure that out. Grrrrrr!!!

The hard part of being creative with digital media is the learning curve. After nearly 2 weeks of being away from Flash animation, I lost what little skills I had. It's slowly coming back now.

Anyways, I know I'm going about this "Hello Operator" piece all wrong. I'm supposed to create an animatic first, but whatevs. I want to learn what strikes me interesting. So, on with the fun stuff of drawing characters and making them say something. It's really fun working with Flash because I can cheat like crazy! No one will ever know. Hehehe.

I think I'm gonna continue my end of our blog experiment a little longer. It really helps me move things along. It would be cool to have some kind of body of work by the end of the summer. We'll see.

So here's the video, don't blink or you'll miss it. Quick tip: After you click play, move the mouse away from the viewfinder so you can see everything in frame.

Love you Bud!!Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37579142015-06-28T12:51:46-07:002021-04-05T06:24:05-07:00Day 28 UnwindHey Bud! Sorry you were illin' yesterday. Hope you're better today. I'm gonna call you in a bit to catch up some more. Funny how our 3 hour phone conversation didn't quite cover it. Ha!!

Caught up on much needed sleep yesterday. After our long chat, I hung out with Mom for a bit and then I took a nice long nap. I woke up at 7:30 pm! It wasn't my intent to sleep away my Saturday afternoon, but I'm glad I did.

Not much to report regarding creativity, but I'm happy to say that I've recruited another player for my solo project. Last night, I went over to Culver City to see my friend Tom Gramlich perform with his band. Tom's a great picker and he said yes to playing guitar on some of my tunes. I discovered he plays lap steel too. May have to incorporate that as well. Here's some pics of his band Mystic Miles performing at The Scarlet Lady Saloon, as I always feel compelled to put up some kind of visual in my blog. Plus, I wanted to give Tom a shout out.

So far, I've got my pal Rob Greffey onboard for bass and I may have a drummer too. Still got to check in with Vaquetones guitarist Gene Cornwell. Always good having several smoking pickers on hand since they are constantly booked.

Well, that's about it. I think I'm gonna do some more drawing today particularly on Jack and Meg White. Let's see how far I get.

Love you Bud!Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37569212015-06-27T06:07:12-07:002021-04-05T06:25:26-07:00Day 27 Time, she is surrealHey Bud, it's 5:48 am and I haven't gone to bed yet. Anthony's flight took off about 25 minutes ago. So strange how quickly his trip went. We did so much every day that when I think it over, it actually was a while ago. Perfect timing though as we just about covered everything on the list. Kinda impressed with myself how much I packed in between work, projects and sightseeing. Whew! I'm ready to get back to business.

I love this time of day for writing. It's quiet, calm and I can think and gather my thoughts. It's when my dreams feel possible. I am incredibly free right now.

I'm excited to continue with all the various projects I started. I finally finished Anthony's video. Haven't quite figured out how to color correct the green from his face. I'll tackle that later down the line. I want to get back to animation, particularly my "Hello Operator" cartoon. Anthony wrote the script himself. I just edited together all the footage and photographs we took with our iPhones. So, incredible the technology today.

It was great fun shooting and editing this. It's been a while since I've done actual production and post-production. I love that I can do it all!

And without further ado, "Listen Up! I Got Something To Say" episode 1.

Love you Bud.

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37559572015-06-26T13:30:00-07:002015-06-26T14:34:01-07:00Day 26 Love Wins!!!Hey Bud, as you already saw on Facebook, Anthony and I had a great time at Club Avalon in Hollywood. It was Tigerheat's 10th Anniversary complete with male go-go dancers. Tigerheat is the young clubbers night on Thursdays at the Avalon, and man those kids were young! I looked like a cougar dancing with Anthony, but he didn't care. He just twerked up and down and all around that dance floor!

What a special day in history. Marriage equality in all 50 states! Anthony was asking me over breakfast how many states are in the US, and I wondered where that came from. Now I know. It cracks me up how the kids keep up with current events via Snapchat, Twitter, etc. He knew all the breaking news during his whole visit here. It's actually pretty cool. Kids are pretty savvy than they're given credit for.

Anyways, I'm still working on that video. Geesh! Hoping to record a bit of Anthony singing since it's his last day today. Fingers crossed.

Anyways, see ya later for our family BBQ as we celebrate Anthony's graduation. Yay!

Here's the Vine again. I've got it everywhere (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). I might as well post on my blog too. Oh, and of course this Vine features another one of my royalty free music tracks!

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37545972015-06-25T11:59:15-07:002017-01-13T05:46:03-08:00Day 25 The ImprovHey Bud, that was fun yesterday. Not much to write about. I think Anthony and I will head out to Santa Monica Pier today. Tony really wants to go to a nightclub. Aunt Edie not so much. Crap, I'm old. We may hit Club Avalon in Hollywood tonight.

Anyways, Anthony's video still isn't done but it's getting there. Trying to do some neat effects I've never done before. Plus, I haven't quite dialed in my chroma key settings. I blame my lighting skills or actually my lack of skills.

Tomorrow is Anthony's last day. He flies out of LAX very early Saturday morning. That's going to be a toughie.

I'm able to post today's entry right now because Anthony's on FaceTime with Anna. Better hurry will my WiFi still has speed!

Looking forward to getting back to that White Stripes animation I started. Really want to see that one through.

It was cool running into Howard Kremer last night outside the Improv. Really wish he was performing the late show. Love his act. He is Mom's favorite you know. Big big thankies to Dwayne Perkings for comping us Improv tickets! He was so funny as always. I've never seen a bad set from that guy. The other comics were really good too, except for that awful awful Dane Cook. I'm going on internet record and saying DANE COOK SUCKS!!! Okay my work is done.

And without further ado, pictures from last night.

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37539012015-06-24T21:01:53-07:002017-01-13T05:46:03-08:00Day 24 Technically, I didn't miss it...Hey Bud, it's funny writing a post when you're just in the other room. It's been cool hanging with you, Anthony and Mom. Downtime with the family is good!!

And now we're off to the Improv to see Dwayne Perkins. Yay!

Yesterday, Anthony and I had a good time at the taping of "@Midnight." Cell phones were not allowed, so here's pics of Tony in WeHo/Beverly Hills. I can barely keep up. I'm still editing Anthony's video. Hopefully I'll make major headway tonight especially since I finally have some time off from work. In just a bit, Anthony are off to a taping of Chris Hardwick's "@Midnight" so that should be fun. Fingers crossed there's time for me to see The Mekons documentary at the Laemmle Royal on the westside at 7:30. I highly doubt it though. That's the thing about this town. So many things to do on any given night.

The Warner Bros tour yesterday was pretty good. My friend Marina took a huge chunk of time showing us around. Don't even have time to create a Vine! I'm quickly overloading my iPhone on top of it. It's backing up right now. I haven't the space to create a :06 sec video.

As you already know, yesterday was a big day for Anthony. He had a good time walking the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, taking lots of pictures of his favorite stars and shopping for souvenirs. Afterwards, we hopped back on the Red Line and headed to DTLA for the Grammy Museum. He loved that! The timing couldn't be more perfect as The Taylor Swift Experience was one of the exhibits. It was quite impressive.

Whew! Talk about larger than life. There's a ton of pics from yesterday, a lot of good ones too. This one pretty much sums it up. Overwhelming!! It was fun none the less.

Last night I had another episode of what I call notions of death, which always wakes me up in the middle of sleeping. It's like my mind sinks into nothingness, and I'm consciously aware of losing me. Then instantly I freak out with the fear of nonexistence. I'd like to write about this more. Maybe even create something from it. I don't know. It strikes me profound and yet I have a hard time explaining it. Just wanted to mention it to remind myself of this thought.

Well, we're off for the Deluxe company picnic in a bit and after that The Grove and Farmers Market.

Now to catch up commenting on your post from yesterday!

Love you Bud.Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37482882015-06-19T12:29:00-07:002015-06-19T13:05:52-07:00Day 19 Hollywood!Hey Bud, this is probably my shortest, most last minute (and very late) post to date. So busy. Trying to figure out technology quickly is a test of my will and patience. Double grrrr. This was supposed to be a quickie, fun post. Triple grrr.

Well as you know I'm trying to squeeze as much time as I can showing Anthony around LA while juggling work, our blog and my daily creative activity. So today's post comes by way of an Instagram video loop. Wanted to see if it was easier to post than Vine, and actually it's much worse. I think I'm on a late night habit. Can't quite explain today. Strange to feel happy for one family member and yet so sad for another at the same time. Life. She is weird.

It's really good having Anthony here. We're gonna have such fun. He's pretty much down for anything and everything.

As for some sort of creative post, I'll use my performance of "Heed My Warning" from Live at Lockett's series, which launched today. This one is my favorite tune out of the three I performed. So disappointed in my fiddle one. It's a bit intimidating watching some incredible artists simply shine on such a stellar production. I tried to bring my A game, but lost it along the way. Sometimes that happens; and it sucks. Strange that I would be comfortable with a guitar in that setting than with my fiddle.

Talk to you soon. However, I did get a new track called "Desert Noir" posted here www.royaltyfreemusicroom.com/shop/film-score/desert-noir/. I created a long version and a short version. The long one has 2 different melodies and the short one just has the first melody. This is the long one: Desert Noir.mp3. The short one is what I put in the site player.

Received an email from Christopher Lockett that the music series I taped a while ago hits YouTube tomorrow. SPOILER ALERT: Most likely, I'll be posting that as a blog entry. It's getting to be crunch time over here. So many things to do before Anthony arrives.

I've also updated my home page and bio copy. You may recognize the bio. Yeah, pulled that out of the archives. Still haven't written one. Hate writing those.

I hope I can get to Jack White's body and finish drawing Meg. Then it's animating mouths and body movement. Not sure if I'll have the patience to finish a proper background. I may keep it. Looks kinda funky.

I'll tawk to you later Lance-a-lot.Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37408242015-06-14T03:37:00-07:002017-01-13T05:46:02-08:00Day 14 Enjoying down timeDidn't get very far with my "Hello Operator" animation, but I did get much needed down time this weekend.

First and foremost, sleep and peace. Love sleeping in and still having my day ahead of me. It's a very luxurious feeling. Wrote my morning pages as I always do, but reflected on the serenity of my home. It's been a long time coming and I'm never giving it up again. Ever.

Finally got to see the Brian Wilson movie Love & Mercy on the big screen at my new favorite movie theater the Laemmle NoHo 7. So happy for my dear pal and former bandmate, Johnny Sneed. He's a big reason why I'm giving myself permission to lead the creative life I want to lead. As I've mentioned to you before, Johnny plays drums in numerous bands and pursues his acting career with full gusto and is a kind, gentle soul. He takes it as it comes, has the best positive attitude in the business and walks the walk. Johnny is what I call an active artist. I love and admire that guy, and wish him continued success. Thank you Johnny!

I took a 3 mile walk in my neighborhood, which I love more and more each day. Along the walk I went to the old stand alone Macy's and bought some much needed comfortable, high quality flats. I can't believe how Iong I went without good shoes. My feet and back have been suffering for it, but no more! I spent $75 which was hard for me to spend, but man, no regrets. Payless shoes suck.

Also got to read a bit too. I've been reading "The Bourne Identity" on and off for like 3 months. It's hard finding time, but that's okay. I'm busy doing stuff. Really digging the book. Haven't seen the movie. I'll probably watch it after I'm done reading.

Mom and I went massive grocery shopping as we gear up for Anthony's visit. Oh, and I talked to our brother Dave yesterday, while I was out on my walk. He called just as I was arriving at Macy's, which was perfect timing. I got to sit in the shade outside the store and talk without bothering anyone. We talked for an hour. It was nice.

And now it's back to work later tonight. Boo! I'm looking forward to the day when I'm working solo. Company culture is no longer for me.

Wow, I didn't realize I had anything to say. Huh. Go figure. Anyways, here's yesterday's progress:

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37401052015-06-13T03:06:18-07:002021-04-05T06:24:33-07:00Day 13 Hello Operator...Hey Bud, well I'm knee deep in animating albeit slow, but a lot of fun. Played some guitar today and sang a bit. May record another quickie demo later in the week, but with our nephew Anthony coming to town on Tues, it may not happen either. Really looking forward to his visit. It will be a bit of a stay-cation for me as I show him the LA sights.

My thoughts today:
After doing a lot of collaboration over the past few years with other bands and artists, I'm thoroughly enjoying the autonomy of my own art and vision these days. I love recording all the parts to my music. I love the actual process of recording, and the same is holding true with my animation. It's sheer joy drawing something and making it come to life with motion and sound. Oh, the allure of illusion.

It's pretty neat that my time is proportionately divided between music and drawing. It's going to be fun creating cartoons of my songs and scoring music and effects for my animated stories. I am in complete control. I have the power!!! Mwwaahh-aaahh-aahh! Can't wait to have my own merch of t-shirts, stickers and coffee mugs, which is the kind of stuff I like buying as well.

For now it's small projects and demos, doable chunks, learning as I go and not overwhelming myself with perfection; nor ambitious, elaborate productions. Keep it simple, Stupid.

What I'm working on:
Okay. I came across "Hello Operator" by the White Stripes on my iTunes, and thought it would be cool to make them cartoons. I came up with the idea of Jack White watching Home Shopping Network as he's talking to HSN operator Meg White, while she sits bored at her cubicle, rolling her eyes having to endure his phone call.

Here's what I've got so far...

I've roughly timed out my story to be :30 sec. Trying to progress to a longer form than the :06 sec Vines, although those Vines are good for cranking out more than one idea.

So, we're quickly approaching the 2 week mark of summer sister blogging. Soon it will be a month. How about that??!!Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37389102015-06-12T04:51:00-07:002015-06-12T05:55:38-07:00Day 12 Happy Friday! To that I say alright, alright, alrightHey there Bud, so here's my latest cartoon. Actually there's another one in the works, this is the latest one that is complete to a degree. I'm all about quantity these days as I'm trying to keep up with all the things I want to do.

In other creative pursuits, I'm about to record a new cover tune. I thought music was going to take a short hiatus. Instead I'm picking up my guitar and having a lot of fun playing songs that perk my ears. It's completely out of the blue. Even the material I'm playing isn't what I expected. Such fun and a 180 from my downer mood early in the week.

With a flurry of activity, each day feels more like 2. I'll see if later this morning I can write a proper blog entry.

Anyways, I was excited to see your post about pictures with words because it fit perfectly with what I'm animating writing now. Or I should say, what I'm attempting to animate. All of a sudden I forgot how to make this extension called Keyframe Caddy work. I've got all my mouth sounds drawn and I can't load them properly to animate in this crazy thing. I figured it before, damnie. Now I'm too tired to think. Boooo!!

So here's me at my drawing board, literally.

Grrrr. Funny that I haven't returned to writing my music bio yet. It is what it is.

Sorry for the short post, things are looking up. Again no reason. I'm happy to be taking another crack at creating a cartoon. Working on drawing mouths and lip synching.

So, until my cartoon is ready, I give you Puddy on Vine. You may recognize the music loop. It's the Vegas one I did a while back, which reminds I've got to post that on my Royalty Free Music Room website.

Without further ado…

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37339802015-06-09T04:47:42-07:002015-06-09T05:30:11-07:00Day 9 Feeling lowHey Bud, I'm a sourpuss. I hate this feeling of futility. I don't know why I bother sometimes. Since you're the only one really reading this, I might as well be honest. A tidal wave of lack has hit me hard. Lack of finances, lack of opportunities, lack of time. However, I do have an abundance of ideas, although I don't know where it will get me. I'm an absolute beginner at everything I'm doing right now.

I was reluctant to write this because I'm trying to stay positive. So strange to feel low, and yet still hopeful in pursuit of a creative life. This pursuit is what I live for each day. It's why I moved here and still live here. All my silly Vines, pictures, demos, writing, whatnot give me this gut feeling that I'm on to something. And then on a dime, I'm filled with resentment that I can't really take the time to develop my ideas.

Right now I haven't zeroed in on any one thing. I'm glad we're blogging because I just want to do it all, no matter how half-assed it is. My spirit's starting to pick up. Thanks for coming up with this idea of blogging. So lucky to have a creative sister who gets it and spurs me on, and reads, listens and watches my stuff. Thanks Bud.

So since no one really is reading, listening or watching but you and me; I'm posting my cover of Oh Atlanta just for my own posterity. I did another vocal take and added a little mando hook after the fiddle solo since last you heard it. Later down the line, I want to look back and see if I make any progress. The only reason I recorded this song is I dig like the melody and chord progression. I've been to Atlanta a couple of times, but it holds no significance to me whatsoever. The Georgia countryside is beautiful though.

So without further ado. My demo of Oh Atlanta.

4:41Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37325322015-06-08T05:00:00-07:002020-11-09T21:11:33-08:00Day 8 You got a heart so big, it could crush this town.Hey there Bud (aka Christy)!

Well we've been at this blogging thing for a whole week! This is a short entry. Got a busy day ahead of me. Anyways, there were only 2 good things in that Larry Crowne movie; George Takei and the use of this song, which was originally in She's The One back in the day.

Always liked this tune. Since we're both Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers fans, I dedicate this Vine to you because you do have a heart so big it could crush this town.

Love,
Edie

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37323472015-06-07T03:17:00-07:002015-06-08T05:08:11-07:00Day 7 of Sister Summer Blog Dear Bud (aka Christy),

My back still hasn't recovered completely and it kept me from going out. However I did manage to create some shiz this weekend. Worked on some music and did some drawing. How 'bout dem apples? I'm not ready to post an mp3 just yet of that cover song I recorded last Friday night. So I emailed you the link instead.

To keep up with my multi-media blogs, I created another stop motion animation / whiteboard art piece and posted it on Vine and YouTube. The Vine loop is cool, but man, :06 sec and the square aspect ratio can sometimes be limiting. So I'm posting both. The edited-for-Vine version and the unedited-director's-YouTube-video-cut (a whopping :10 sec) in all its high-def glory straight from my iPhone. Ha!!

I was a little down last night because I didn't go out, and then the nail in the coffin was watching "Larry Crowne" on HBO Now. Holy crap. That movie really sucked. I was in the mood for some likable, no brainer, happy fluffy stuff and I thought Tom Hanks would fit the bill. Wow, it sucked so bad that I actually feared for my own art. I mean, Tom Hanks with all his success and clout makes this embarrassingly awful out-of-touch movie. Who the hell am I to even consider being part of the film community or a musician or an animator or anything? Thankfully, I squelched my bad juju by going to my iTunes library and finding the first thing that would strike a chord in me to draw, and behold John Lennon's "Love." An appropriate message for me being a hater. It's kinda inspiring knowing that Tom Hanks is human after all. If he can strike out, then so can I, and just move on to the next project up at bat.

So there it is, my post for today. I'm hoping to catch an early matinee of Love & Mercy, the new movie about Brian Wilson. So excited to see my dear pal Johnny Sneed on the big screen as drummer Hal Blaine. I've already seen the movie at work, but I want the whole theater experience, especially the studio scenes of Pet Sounds. How I love movies about musicians, oh and movies about baseball too. Tom Hanks, if you ever read this, I love A League Of Their Own and That Thing You Do!

Love,
EdieEdie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37315272015-06-06T05:48:00-07:002017-01-13T05:46:02-08:00Day 6 Music and Kitty TimeDear Bud (aka Christy),

My blog is short and yet I spend so much time trouble shooting the damn thing. Unfortunately, my regular job does as well and now it's taking it's toll. My lower back is killing me. I blame that damn job though.

I'm using Bengay for the first time and finally taking some Ibuprofen. It was working earlier tonight but it's wearing off. Usually I can tough it out, but man, this really hurts. I'm discovering that I hold in a lot tension in how I sit at work and put a lot of unnecessary stress on myself physically and mentally. It's not worth it on so many levels. Time for a new attitude. "Whatever needs to get done, will get done. Whatever didn't get done, didn't need to get done."

Despite all that, my art got done!! This brings me much happiness.

As for today's activity, I put yesterday's "Funky Kitty Meow Meow" to good use and posted it's YouTube video and music track on my royaltyfreemusicroom.com site. I created 3 different lengths (:30 sec, :60sec and 2 min) and have them available at different price points. I think I may make some more whiteboard animations with my music. It's definitely fun to do and it's a great marketing tool as well as an excellent demonstration of how my well my songs work visually. Plus, it makes my site look better.

So, not much actual creativity today, but productive nonetheless, which makes it a good day.

Looking forward to reading your blog and seeing where you're at.

Love,
Budmeister (aka Edie)
CEO of Bad Assery Inc.

P.S.
It's day 1 and I'm already exhausted. Between revamping my website and my Blogger site, I've forgotten all the creative notions I wanted to share as my first entry. It was supposed to be monumental and profound. Yeah, right.

Anywho. As you know, I'm damn excited to finally take a crack at animation. My little Jim Rockford cartoon is coming along. I know you've seen this already, but I'm posting for posterity. I've got some other little details drawn that I need to insert. Man, I gotta add some awesome pans and zooms to make it more Rockford-esque!!

Okay, it's a humble start for my renewed blogging. I can only go up from here, right? Hoping my cartoon is dazzling enough. I mean, c'mon, it's Jim Rockford!! It's also my favorite song right now. My friend Mark Christian from Merle Jagger does a pretty good cover of this tune.

Over and out,
Bud

Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37233442015-06-01T00:22:00-07:002021-08-01T15:03:03-07:00In just a few hours, I'll be starting a daily blog with Christy.Wow. It's been 5 years since my last blog. Well I'm starting up again, but my audience is my sister Christy.

Anyways, this entry is a test to make sure my launch this morning goes smoothly and it's a buffer between my five-year old entry and my new 2015 entry.

Everything's humble beginnings lately. I've been teaching myself how to animate in Flash Pro CC. It started with a 30 day free trial on May 1st. Damn. That reminds me; I have to buy the license to continue my work! Doh!

So here's one of my first creations which I learned from an Adobe Flash tutorial. The instructor drew a potato, but I thought a hot dog was way more interesting. See for yourself. And yes, I recorded the simple yet quirky music. It turned out pretty cool on Vine.

P.S. I'll be posting my Vines down the road. Need to figure that shiz out.
Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/37233452010-05-15T18:42:00-07:002022-03-10T21:53:59-08:00I Ain't Eddie Murphy (Edie's My Name)
Good grief! October proved to be an inspiration music-wise due to some very fun, spontaneous gigs. On Saturday the 17th, I had the good fortune of fiddlin' and singin' with former bandmates and new members of Murphy's Flaw (Donn Cunningham-guitar, John Bryan-banjo, Matt Witler-mandolin, Peter Blackwelder-fiddle and Paul Dorn-upright bass) at an outdoor charity gig which was the fall harvest festival for Tierra Del Sol (a great organization I might add).

Then the following weekend (10/24) played again with Donn, John and Paul as part of Baconstock over at The Cinema Bar.

Baconstock was a hoot! It was a special 3-day music fest/going away party for The Cinema's beloved bartender Sara Bacon who is leaving for Maine in a week or so. Everyone played in such fine form and the joint was jumpin'! Here's a pic (borrowed from Facebook, thanks Hampton!) of Sara gettin' her grove on and me grinnin' away during Dan Janisch's set.

So, I'm hanging out on the back patio taking a breather from all the Baconstock festivities and I notice all these cool Halloween posters promoting Dan Janisch's "Vicious Draculicious" show. So I ask Dan, who's coincidentally taking a breather too, about his show and he invites me to play a tune special for his Halloween gig.

Well, that show was last night, and man did I fun playing "Devil Went Down To Georgia" with Dan and his god-damn awesome band! The Cinema Bar was all decked out in Halloween gear: smoke poured from a coffin, spiders and ghosts dangled from the ceiling and cool black lights lit the joint. "Devil" and Dan's encore of "She's So Wild" were highlights for me.

And now, I get to do Halloween all over again! My favorite LA rockabilly singer, Brian Hogan, is having me sit in tonight for a special spooktacular set over at The Fox and Hounds Pub in Studio City. And yes, there'll be a repeat performance of "Devil Went Down To Georgia." I can't wait!

With all this performing activity, I'm feeling inspired to get my solo act out there on the scene. That's right people. I'm going to Disneyland thanks to my dear friends Mikey, Tom F, JR, Guy and Chris. Great birthday gift guys, THANKS!

Whew! What a whirlwind week. It all started with the debut solo/birthday show (5/13), then the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest (5/17) and finally Murphy's Flaw concert at Braemar Country Club (5/19).

Well the birthday gig was FUN. So many friends came to cheer me on as I mixed up the set with fiddle tunes, some butchered rock covers and my original stuff. Check out the YouTube clip (courtesy of Richard Greene, thanks Richard!) from the 5/13 show on my new video page.

Special thanks to my sister Christy, who brought the best cake ever, Dan Janisch who totally rocked my birthday night, the guys in my band Peter Kavanaugh, Million Dollar Dan and John Bryan and especially to everyone who came and showed such love and support. Thank you!

It's official. I'm second fiddle according to the judges at The Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest.

I played "Indiana Waltz" by Richard Greene and was backed up my Murphy's Flaw bandmates George Biner (1st place winner in adv. flatpick guitar & 3rd place backup guitar) and Paul Dorn (2nd place winner in backup bass). What a thrill and an honor.
Edie Murphytag:ediemurphy.com,2005:Post/338952009-04-26T21:05:00-07:002020-10-12T00:33:12-07:00Entry #16 Spinal Tap Unwigged and Unplugged RAWKED!The Unwigged and Unplugged show at the Wiltern RAWKED tonight!

I couldn't figure out how to upload an mp3 on Blogger and went to the trouble of creating a dang video instead. The upload took forever too! OMG! Kinda wonder if it was at all worth it. Stay tuned.

Okay, now to the geek portion of the show, er . . . uh . . . I mean entry . . .

Here's the thing. I love and admire top lofty musicians in all genres and can be musically snooty with the best of them. Ah, but those close to me (and now blog readers) know I have some scary skeletons in my music closet and every once in a while they creep out.

My TV viewing somewhat matches my musical taste. MSNBC , BBC America and VH1 Classic are the only channels I watch but that's another story or entry or whatever or not.

Anyways . . . the other day VH1 Classic aired, One With Everything, a live concert of Styx performing with The Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and damn it I enjoyed watching it. That concert took me back to the days of high school when I listened to REO Speedwagon while going to countless rehearsals/auditions/concerts with the BCC Youth Symphony, Florida All-State Orchestra, All-County Orchestra (in Broward), and Coconut Creek High School Orchestra (not to mention the numerous school musical pit orchestras). But I never had the opportunity to combine both! Rock out while playing the violin? Man, those CYO kids were so lucky. I wasn't a fan of Styx or Journey back in the day, but I dug all their cousin bands like REO, Loverboy, Billy Squier and countless others just as embarrassing. Check out the YouTube clip. You can't help but smile seeing those kids having so much fun and playing with such joy WITH Styx in 2006! Who da thunk?

Anyway, I was so inspired that I wanted to keep the geek flame burning and made a donation to VH1's Save The Music Foundation.
